Initial Adult Education Permit Application Instructions

Applying for a Delaware adult education permit is a two-step process.

  1. Register in DEEDS – Submit information (Name, contact information, education information, experience)

  2. Complete an application for a Permit. Basic requirements are:
    1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
    2. Delaware passing scores on Core Academic Skills for Educators Math, Reading, Writing
    3. Meet certificate requirements according to regulations
After completing the online application process, you must provide official documentation of all transcripts, certificates, and experience listed in the application to the address below:

*Test scores are forwarded to the Department electronically upon your request (see testing).

Processing & Notification.  Applications cannot be processed until ALL documentation listed on your application is received. The certification office will attempt to notify you of any missing documentation; however, given the volume of applications that the Department receives, it is your responsibility to provide the required documentation and monitor your application on DEEDS.

Once all documentation has been received, the Department will evaluate your credentials in as timely a manner as possible. You may apply for employment while your permit is pending. (Districts and charter schools have access to your application information via DEEDS.)

Once the evaluation process is complete, you will receive via email your license/certificate(s) or an evaluation letter stating the requirements that you need to meet.
